BIIBS Young Scholars in Residence Program
About the YSIR Program
Each year BIIBS invites a young scholar in the broad field of international business, management and Economics to spend some time at the institute. The young scholar in residence program is aimed at creating opportunities for young researchers to visit and collaborate with academics at the Institute. The program aims to attract advanced PhD students and early postdocs.
Program Details & Application
Scholars in residence are expected to present their work either in a speech, a panel discussion or a paper development workshop. Moreover, they are expected to spend between 2 and 4 weeks in residence over an academic year.
Applications with a CV and a short letter of motivation need to be sent untll the 15th of March to the Director BIIBS Prof. Dr. Christoph Dörrenbächer, doerrenbaecher@hwr-berlin.de.

Young Scholar in Residence 2016 - Florian Olischer

Short Bio Florian Olischer studied Business Administration (BA, MSc) in Berlin, New Orleans and Potsdam. During his studies, he specialized on strategic management, organizational sociology and public management. Subsequently he completed Teach First Deutschland’s fellowship program. He gathered further work experience in several companies and industries. His research interests are in the areas of international and strategic management, organizational design and in the business-politics relationship. On my stay at BIIBS Part of my stay at the institute was an interactive lecture for students based on my ongoing research. The research deals with airport - airline relationships and students were put in the role of major stakeholders. During my stay I could draw on the strong experience of BIIBS and Berlin School of Economics and Law scholars in the field of aviation studies when finishing a research paper on concession bargaining in the airline industry. |
Young Scholar in Residence 2015 - Stefan Frübing

Short Bio Stefan Frübing is a doctoral student at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim and the University of Gießen. He holds master degrees in economics from both the University of Mannheim and Toulouse School of Economics. During his studies, he specialized on industrial organization and competition economics and experienced the practical work of a competition authority during an internship at the Bundeskartellamt. His research interests cover all areas of competition economics with a particular focus on the behavior of cartels. As a strong chess player and former German youth champion, he enjoys using methods from game theory. On my stay at BIIBS My stay at the BIIBS & HWR Berlin included a lecture for students on cartel detection and competition law compliance and plenty of time dedicated to work on a joint research paper with Andreas Polk, a local professor with similar research interest. The working environment on a modern campus in a very nice part of the great city of Berlin was excellent. My stay was very productive and I am readily recommending the young scholars in residence program to anyone who has research interests matching those of the excellent HWR faculty members. |
